Valley Life Free Church

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: "What denomination are you?"

A: Valley Life Free is a non-denominational Christian church. We are Biblically based and Christ centered. We believe that the Holy Bible is the one and only proven Word of God and the only guide to a joyful and fulfilling eternal life in Jesus Christ. We encourage all who are searching or currently not attending a Christian church to visit us.

Q: "What is your mission?"

A: Valley Life Free exists to worship God, learn from His Word, fellowship with Christ and with one another, and apply what we learn so that we can live a life that is pleasing to God and a blessing to others. We do all these things in obedience to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20) and to provide all people an adventurous place to worship, learn, fellowship, grow, and serve.

Q: "What do you have to offer me or my family?"

A: First of all, we bring you the Good News: "For God so loved you that He gave His only begotten Son so that if you believe in Him you will not perish but have eternal life!" Jesus died for your sins and offers you a fresh new and eternal life so that you can enjoy the joy, peace, mercy, and grace of His healing forgiveness! We also offer you a place to worship, learn, fellowship, and apply what you learn so that others may be blessed too.

Q: "Do you offer child care?"

A: Yes ... we offer child care for children 2 to 11 years old. Our child care ministry provides your children with a safe and fun time so that you can relax and enjoy the worship and the Bible message. We also provide a Baby Room for families with children under 2 years old. Children from 12 to 17 will enjoy the worship and the message and are also encouraged to join the VLF Youth Team for further spiritual growth and service opportunities.

Q: "Church is boring. What is different about yours?"

A: We agree ... some churches may seem dry and outdated to some people. At Valley Life Free Church our worship is contemporary, our teaching and preaching is Biblical, Christ centered, direct, and to the point. Our fellowship is fun and meaningful because we encourage each other to apply what we learn! At VLF, we are committed to helping you grow to become a QUALITY disciple of Jesus Christ. We don't have time to be boring.

Q: "Are you a preaching or teaching church?"

A: We are a preaching and teaching church that helps you to apply God's Word to your life in a clear and direct manner.

Q: "What Bible versions do you use?"

A: Our main text is the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Holy Bible.

Q: "What ministry opportunities do you provide?"

A: At Valley Life Free Church, we provide you with several ministry opportunities. You can learn more about marriage, life, money, and family through several Bible classes provided throughout the year. Or you can serve the troubled youth of Fresno County, or feed the homeless, or join our music or drama team to bring the good news of healing through song or acting. Here is the list of our current ministries: Men's Ministry, Women's Ministry, Marriage Ministry, Youth Ministry, Children's Ministry, Boot Camp (Juvenile Hall) Ministry, Feed the Homeless Ministry, AO1 Music Ministry, Theater (Drama) Team Ministry, Evangel Home Ministry, and our Custodial (clean-up and maintenance) Ministry.

Q: "Are you going to put us down and make us listen to 'hell fire and brimstone' preaching?"

A: We do not put people down ... we encourage and build up people to become mature and joyful students of Jesus Christ based on the truths of the Holy Bible. The Holy Bible is the PROVEN Word of God Almighty ... it speaks for itself and it stands alone as the only source of our teaching and preaching. We'll make the Bible come to life for you and clearly explain how to apply what you learn. As you learn more about God's Word you will see that it is a wonderful, true, piercing, exciting, adventurous, lovely, awe-inspiring, life enhancing document of peace, hope, love, freedom and true joy!

Q: "Are you going to bug us for money?"

A: At Valley Life Free Church we believe that giving should be done joyfully and in appreciation for what God has done for you and is doing for others. Only believers that have faithfully and spiritually matured to truly understand the reason and blessings for giving should give. Giving is ultimately between you and God. All offerings given to VLF Church are treated and respected as God's money and are only used to support and expand God's work in the local community and throughout the world.

Q: "Are you a Charismatic or Pentecostal type church?"

A: While we encourage the freedom of worship, joyful Christian expression, and the use and sharing of Spiritual gifts (according to the guidelines given in God's Word), we are not considered a Charismatic or Pentecostal type church. God is in control and He has given us His Word in regards to the proper and orderly use of His gifts. We believe that NOTHING is impossible with God including, but not limited to, salvation, forgiveness, radical life transformation, miraculous healings, and whatever else God wills to do! Valley Life Free Church is open and attentive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and to God's will. Come and visit us to learn more about the Valley Life Free adventure of Spirit and Truth.

Q: "What is baptism?"

A: Water baptism is the first step of public obedience after receiving Jesus Christ and symbolizes the death to self in Christ and the beginning of a new life in Him. Water baptism is a wonderful celebration of becoming new creatures in Jesus!

Q: "Who can be baptized?"

A: Only people who have repented (turned away) from their sins and believe and have received Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior may be baptized.

Q: "Do you baptize in the Name of Jesus?"

A: At Valley Life Free Church, we baptize under the authority of Jesus according to the very clear instructions given to us by Jesus Himself. We baptize "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). Since these clear instructions came directly from Jesus Himself (who takes priority over all), all other Scripture referring to water baptism must be understood and interpreted in the context of what Jesus said and taught.

Q: "I have too many bad things in my life. How can I come to church knowing all the bad things that I do?"

A: Listen ... you have taken the first step to eternal freedom and joy! You have admitted that you are not perfect. None of us are perfect ... especially compared to God's perfect law. Don't you see ... it is because of our imperfections (sin) that God sent His only Son Jesus to this earth? Jesus came JUST FOR YOU AND JUST FOR ME. Jesus came to provide imperfect humans a way back to God and to all the heavenly blessings that He freely gives to all who believe in Him. This is the gospel ... this is the good news! Don't wait ... come as you are.

Q: "Come as you are? Really? But what if I am a gay person that is interested in learning more about Jesus? Or what if I am living with someone that I am not married to? Will you still welcome me to your church?"

A: When we say, "come as you are" ... we mean it! Valley Life Free Church is open to ALL who are sincerely seeking more information about Jesus or the Bible. Jesus is a friend to all who are willing to listen, learn, and obey. So we want to be like Jesus too! It is not our responsibility to change anyone. That responsibility belongs to God's Holy Spirit. Our responsibility is to teach and preach God's word in love, truth, and respect. You are free to decide what you want to do with the information that you receive and you are free to decide how you respond to God's Holy Spirit. But remember: we are all ultimately and individually responsible for what we know.

Q: "Do I have to become a member of your church or can I just continue to visit?"

A: While we encourage and welcome first time visitors, regular visitors are strongly encouraged to consider becoming committed members of the church body. As a believer and receiver of Jesus Christ, you are expected to grow and participate as a member of God's Church. God considers us a living body and we all have our spiritual gifts and responsibilities to share with His family. Our vision is to live a life that is pleasing to God and a blessing to others. This cannot be accomplished with mediocre commitments or luke-warm fellowship. This can only be achieved if we are serious about what we say and do. VLF is committed to creating QUALITY disciples of Jesus Christ and our members are expected to participate in bringing this vision to fruition.

We are open to all who want to know Jesus and who desire to begin or complete the exciting process of spiritual renewal and personal growth. We welcome you to Valley Life Free Church just as you are ... and you will see that with God as your guiding light ... you can do all things through Him who will strengthen you!
